Yana Skorobogatov is currently a PhD candidate in history at the University of California, Berkeley, and a Writer in Residence at New York University's Jordan Center for the Advanced Study of Russia. She spent 2015-2016 in Moscow conducting dissertation research on the history of the death penalty in the postwar Soviet Union. She spends her free time freelance writing, open water swimming, and brainstorming an article-length think piece about her life as a first-generation Russian-American. She was born in Moscow, USSR and currently lives in Somerville, MA.
